About the RF bayonet
The EOS R system and RF bayonet, introduced in September 2018, expand the possibilities of the proven EOS system. This development from Canon is in line with technological advances and end-user feedback, and also takes into account the future technical and creative needs of photographers and filmmakers. The EOS R system combines the best of the EOS system with even more performance, more design options and creative flexibility. The RF bayonet, also introduced in September 2018, enables unprecedented new optical designs that allow large lens elements to be placed as close as possible to the sensor, favoring the incidence of light on the sensor. The RF bayonet improves communication and information transfer between the Lens and the camera body - helping to achieve the world's fastest autofocus speed in a full-frame mirrorless camera systemii camera system. The short flange focal distance of the bayonet of 20 mm and the large bayonet diameter of 54 mm offer greater scope for the development of new lenses.
