The ECM-680S is a compact, high-performance shotgun microphone that is ideal for use on cameras.
The Sony ECM-680S is a shotgun-style electret condenser microphone with MS stereo technology* that is ideal for a wide range of applications in both field and studio recording. The ECM-680S offers excellent sensitivity, low self-noise and a flat, wide frequency response. The most notable feature of the ECM-680S is its switchable operation between high directivity mono mode and stereo mode.

The mono mode ensures highly directional voice pickup, while the stereo mode provides a surround sound with natural audio quality. The compact and lightweight ECM-680S is ideal for use with a wide range of Sony professional camcorders. To make it even more versatile, it can also be mounted on a microphone boom. Thanks to its outstanding quality and versatility, the ECM-680S is the first choice for quality-conscious sound recording applications.

* MS microphone signal of the ECM-680S is internally decoded to L and R (stereo) output signals.

Outstanding sound quality
The ECM-680S uses mid-side (MS) technology, which enables natural stereo sound and excellent localization. Thanks to the large diaphragm microphone capsules with bidirectional characteristics, the ECM-680S offers an excellent sensitivity of -28 dB* (stereo)/-32 dB* (mono) and an extremely low self-noise of less than 20 dB SPL (stereo/mono).

* 0 dB = 1 V/Pa

Switchable between stereo and mono
The ECM-680S operates in either stereo or mono (unidirectional) mode and can therefore be used for both EFP and ENG applications. Stereo mode is ideal for recording ambient sound with a natural sound quality, while mono mode is ideal for recording speech and sound from a distance. The desired mode can be activated via the switch on the microphone or via compatible Sony professional camcorders.

In stereo mode, the LED light on the ECM-680S lights up so that the user can immediately see which mode is currently in operation.

Flat, wide frequency response
With its flat, wide frequency response (50 Hz to 20 kHz (stereo)/40 Hz to 20 kHz (mono)) in both stereo and mono mode, the ECM-680S offers natural, interference-free sound reproduction of above-average quality.

Compact and lightweight
The ECM-680S is a compact, high-performance shotgun microphone that is ideal for use on cameras in particular. With a length of just 250 mm and a weight of less than 140 g, the device guarantees optimum camera balance when mounted on one of many professional camcorders from Sony.
