Experience the unique landscape and nature of Gran Canaria with the Swiss hiking guide René/ and the German photographer Heinz, from the desert-like south to the green north of the island.

We discover idyllic mountain villages, the almond blossom, a romantic sunset, periods of bad weather are rare in the south (Maspalomas) and at around 21 degrees we have optimal conditions for photography.

René/ will guide you to great postcard motifs of the Canary Islands, because he knows his way around like no other. Beginners and advanced photographers alike will receive tips on landscape and macro photography from Heinz, who is always on hand with help and advice. We take plenty of time to photograph the motifs, which contributes to the success of the photos.

The day before the excursions (13.01.26) there will be an introductory course from 3.00 pm to 5.30 pm. Meeting point is the lighthouse (El Faro) of Maspalomas.

We pick up our guests from the hotel for the respective excursions and bring them back afterwards. The hotel transfer is included in the price.

Participants will need their own camera for the excursions. Preferably an SLR, system or bridge camera. Cell phone photographers are also welcome.

We offer this trip without flights and hotel accommodation. Many airlines fly to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and you can book the flight and hotel that suits you best yourself, or book a package tour through your travel agency, e.g. for a week (Sunday, 11.01.26 to Sunday, 18.01.26). The hotel should be in Maspalomas (near the lighthouse, El Faro), e.g. the very nice hotel "Costa Meloneras"(see hotel) or hotel "Livvo Los Calderones"(see hotel).

Program:

- Start of the photo excursion -

Wednesday, 14. January, departure 12:00 noon, Hotel Costa Meloneras

We drive to La Fortaleza de Ansite, the last bastion of the indigenous people of Gran Canaria. The first inhabitants of the island used it for more than a thousand years as a place to live in caves and houses, as a burial site, a place to camp, etc. In fact, the oldest dates of Gran Canaria (4th century) can be found here. From Fortaleza Grande, the most famous rock in the village, the tunnel that crosses the mountain and especially its summit stand out. Once all the photo opportunities are in the camera, we drive on to Santa Lucía de Tirajana. The church of Santa Lucía is a historic-artistic building in the upper part of the town. It is characterized by its beautiful carved stone façade and its white dome, which gives it an unmistakable silhouette. There are also ethnographic, botanical and zoological objects on display. In the surrounding gardens there is a natural exhibition of native flora and numerous fruit trees from different parts of the world.

After the picnic, we drive up to the highest point of the island for sunset, which is at 6.28 pm. After the sunset, we drive back to Maspalomas, where we arrive at the hotel at around 8.30 pm.

Thursday, January 15, departure 09:00 am, Hotel Costa Meloneras

The combination of landscape, sea and rocks always has a special charm. That's why we drive to La Garita, where we visit El Bufadero. A cave that has formed in the rocks on the seashore, with a hole in the roof as a skylight. When the waves come in and cover the opening, compressed air escapes through the hole in the roof, creating a huge "snort" (bufido in Spanish). The bufaderos are typical on the coasts of the volcanic islands.

Our journey continues to AguÌimes, where we first enjoy a picnic together on the village square. We then visit the historic center of AguÌimes with the parish church of San Sebastián, which resembles a cathedral and has one of the most beautiful facades in the Canarian neoclassical style. The church was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1981. The Casa de los Camellos hotel, which is over 300 years old and belonged to a noble family, is also located in the center of the market town. The town offers visitors the architectural, artistic and historical characteristics of the old town center. We return to the hotel at around 4 p.m.

Friday, January 16, departure 09:00 a.m., Hotel Costa Meloneras

Today we visit the most beautiful sights of the capital Las Palmas. We walk through the streets of Vegueta, an excursion into history. The Plaza Santa Ana, where the town hall is located, the bishopric, the administration building and the Santa Ana Cathedral are just some of the traces that have found their place here for five centuries.
The Pé/rez Galdós Theater was inspired by the Italian style and is currently being renovated. It is one of the most emblematic buildings in the city. A popular meeting point in the Triana district is the Plaza Hurtado de Mendoza and the Plaza de Cairasco, where there are two buildings worth seeing: the Hotel Madrid and the Literary Gabinett, decorated in a neoclassical style and modernist style. The square is a great place to relax and enjoy the pleasant atmosphere on one of the many terraces. In the surroundings of Triana there is another highly interesting architectural building in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It is the Quegles building from 1900.
Our journey continues to the city beach of Las Canteras. Here we will have a picnic together before visiting the beach. A jewel that is not kept under lock and key.
An extensive sandy beach several kilometers long that stretches across the entire bay. A place with a special charm, just three or four streets away from the cruise ship dock. We return to the hotel around 4 p.m.

- End of the photo excursion -

Saturday, January 17 optional
Photo beach walk (optional) with Heinz, from Maspalomas to Playa de Ingles. Meeting point at the lighthouse at 12.00 noon.
